Our Integrated Team Can Help You Get Ready for Fall Sports

Before you know it, the cooler season will come, and so will fall sports! But maybe you’re wondering how to prepare for this year’s fall sports season. Or perhaps you’ve been struggling with an old injury that just doesn’t seem to go away. Either way, Equilibrium is here to help.

Everyone involved in athletics knows that one thing is for sure: competition comes with a risk of injury. Fortunately, we know how to prepare athletes for the fall sports season. Our team of physiotherapists, kinesiologists, chiropractors, massage therapists, and acupuncturists all play a role in helping athletes recover from injuries and preparing them for their upcoming seasons.

Whether you compete in cross-country running, soccer, or football,  we can help you address an injury and provide you with the tools you need to be at your peak physical condition for the start of the season! Request an appointment so our team can help you get ready to compete.

Injuries are part of any sports season and are typically divided into two categories: traumatic and overuse.

Traumatic injuries are caused by a specific incident, such as twisting your ankle or suffering a concussion after a fall. In contrast, overuse injuries are caused by repetitive movements and poor technique performed over time. Shin splints, stress fractures, and jumper’s knee are all good examples of overuse injuries.

That said, sprains and strains are among the most common sports injuries, and they can occur as both overuse and traumatic injuries.

Sprains affect the ligaments, the tissue that connects the bones in your joints. A sprain occurs when a ligament is stretched beyond its limits. Once the ligament is stretched, it is looser and more susceptible to being sprained again.

Strains are similar to sprains but affect the muscles and tendons, which connect your muscles to your bones. Once the tendon is injured, it needs to be resolved fully, or it can lead to a chronic overuse condition.

We classify strains and sprains by severity. A mild strain or sprain might cause slight pain and resolve on its own, but a severe strain or sprain will require extensive rehabilitation if not surgical intervention.

Playing a sport you love, whether competitively or just for fun, is essential to staying healthy and enjoying your life. And making sure your body is strong, stable, and prepped for your chosen sport is vital for avoiding injuries.

Conditioning is a significant part of staying healthy when you play sports. Conditioning programs can lower your injury risk and improve your performance. Our physiotherapists and kinesiologists can show you sports-specific strengthening and training methods to keep your joints healthy and strong and ensure your body can tolerate your sport’s demands.

We utilize targeted exercises, lifting weights, and proactive recovery practices to prevent athletes from injuring themselves. Struggling with pain? Our chiropractors, massage therapists, and acupuncturists offer several options to help prepare your body for your personalized conditioning program.

Visiting Equilibrium before you begin playing this fall could make all the difference in how ready your body is to be out on the field or court. We’ll perform an injury screening to identify any underlying condition or biomechanical issues that could lead to future injuries, then provide personalized programs to address those concerns head-on. Plus, our multidisciplinary approach ensures you get the comprehensive care you need.
